Short Biography: The Story Behind the Keyboard
My name is Travis Adams. In the past, I have worked in various case management-type roles in school systems for Berea College. Also, I served four years in AmeriCorps, where I mentored students with a focus on academics.
I graduated from Hazard Community and Technical School (HCTCS) with an associate degree, where I later enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University and graduated with a bachelor's in Psychology. After, I completed my master's in social work at the University of Kentucky and received a Military Behavioral Health (MBH) certificate.
Currently, I am focused on studying the potential of music therapy for geriatric veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This research began as I volunteered music lessons at a long-term care facility for veterans. Giving music lessons to veterans helped me understand the unrealized power of music and healing. I hope this discussion sparks an interest in music therapy for geriatric veterans with PTSD where more research can be done to understand its potential benefits fully. More work is needed to make music therapy more accessible to all veterans.
